Dorothy?

My sister Valerie and her family just experienced a tornado up close and personal. Check it out here. We're so glad they are all okay!

Some funny things my kids said . . .

Caution: This may or may not be interesting to any of my readers. However, I thoroughly enjoy my kids' sayings, so I'm putting them here so I don't forget.

Story #1:

Jacob was explaining to Gabe about how his friend Holden told him that when someone dies, you write a note, attach it to a balloon, and send it up into the sky. Gabe began laughing hysterically. Not because he's an insensitive, manly brute (though he may become one), but because he thought it was a ridiculous idea. "A balloon?" he kept asking between fits of giggles. "That's sooo funny! Why don't you just say a prayer?"

Story #2:

Gabe to Mommy at dinner: "I love you all the way to Pluto!" (Apparently the moon isn't far enough away.)

Nate to Mommy: "I love you all the way to Mickey!"

Story #3:

Dan to the boys on Mother's Day: "I want everyone to say one thing that they love about Mommy."

Nate: "ONE!"

Story #4

Jacob, after running to retrieve the wipes for Mommy when she discovered Nate's surprise poop in his diaper (yes, we are not fully invested in the potty training yet): "Hmm, that's a tidy poop." It was a very apt description.

Goodbye My Love(r?)

The time has come.
The time is now.
I cannot eat you anyhow.

Ahh, you do taste sublime,
With chips hint-of-lime,
But we must wait for another time.

There comes a time in every pregnancy when you lose certain things.

Your waistline.

Your navel.

Your mind.

Your favorite new bra.

Your desire to shave any part of your body.

Your dignity (no, I'm not (gasp) working out, (gasp) I'm just (gasp) making my bed).

Your modesty (sure, let the interns check too, anyone else out in the hall want a peek?).

However, losing my ability to eat anything free from heartburn and severe acid reflux is probably the thing I lament the most. After Cinco-de-Mayo celebrations concluded and I spent most of Monday night paying for my indulgences, I realized that the time to make certain sacrifices has come. Along with the time for regular Pepcid AC dosing.

So adios for now my love; I'll see you in September.

Big, Little Boy

Nate started preschool a couple weeks ago! Here he is on his first day of school. He spent the day before and that morning crying whenever his brothers mentioned school. This is the only picture I got at school, before he burst into tears again. He does look a bit nervous, don't you think?

But no worries, once we walked into the classroom, he ran to the kitchen and never looked back. Could it be because we have no kitchen toys at our house? How will my boys ever play house or chef without sisters to boss them around?

First time waiting for the school bus. Thanks to mommy, even the peer models get to ride the bus to and from preschool (see #4 here).

Nate looks happy here, but the truth is he cried every time he got on the bus for the entire first week. One morning, I even had to drag him out from under the bed where he was hiding. I kept telling the bus driver and aide (and myself) that he'd be fine in a week, as I passed him off, kicking and crying.

Sure enough, the next week, Nate grabbed his backpack and headed out early to wait for the bus. Now he does the cutest hop-dance when he sees it coming, and he never looks back once he's on it. He also does the cutest thing when he gets off the bus. Every time, he sneaks around the seat with big "crazy eyes" and tries to surprise me. What a big, little boy!

This one's for you Kate!
